Dear friends,

I have just arrived in Istanbul and first thing, I would like to thank you for all. For not forgetting me and visiting these pages from time to time, for your entries in the guestbook, for your birthday wishes and most of all for being who you are. Thank you!

I have arrived here after an exhausting but exciting trip and will take a break until 11 august. A more detailed report about my trip and impressions is following, I promise.

Lots of love,
Benno

 Beograd II

15-07-2006 (Benno)

After the little story on my trip from Novi Sad to Belgrad, yet another few words on the city of Belgrad itself. Not having expected anything of it I am really pleased about it.
It has got a nice pedestrial area in its center with a large park adjacent to it, looking down onto the Danube.

A bit late I have realized that there was a international folk festival going on in its ancient fortress. But the few contributions I saw last night, I just loved them.

After a day of rest, laundry, internet and sightseeing, I will continue my way tomorrow along the Danube heading for the largest national park of Serbia.

 Beograd

15-07-2006 (Benno)

Half an hour, after riding out of Novi Sad on the main road towards Belgrad, there is a stretch of road of about three or four kilometers steadily going up at a rate of 8% as indicated. For some underpowered vehicles, it is already a bit of mission getting up that hill. However, considering the morning shade of the trees I was comfortably sweating, but did fairly well myself.
After spending 20 minutes climbing that road, I heard again a car approaching from behind. But suddenly I realized, that this car is not overtaking me. So I turned my head to see what is going on, and indeed, there was a car, carefully driving alongside me, the window on the passenger side winded down. In the dim, just behind the open window I noticed something floating in the air. It was a bottle of tonic mineral water, with the hand of the driver hanging on to it. Rather astonished about this situation I grasped that bottle, while trying not to fall off my bicylce and uttered a confused "thank you" in German. The driver said nothing, nodded and drove on. Only then, noticing that it was a company car, I realized that it was a spontaneous promotional act of a representative of Minaqua, a mineralwater company of Novi Sad. That was very appreciated. Thank you!
